Executive Management



Eric Hosin – President

Eric Hosin was appointed to the position of President, effective, January 1, 2010. Eric has been a member of the Guardian Life executive team since the company commenced operations in 1999 and was appointed its Senior Vice President in 2004. He was appointed to the company’s Board of Directors in 2005.

Prior to joining Guardian Life, Eric served as Assistant Vice President, Missions, Promotions and Public Relations at Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) and as Vice President, Sales and Marketing at Horizon Life Limited. He has also served in a number of leadership positions in civic and religious organisations and is currently a Deacon and Board Member of the Church of the Open Bible.

Eric brings over 20 years industry experience, an intimate knowledge of the Guardian Life operations and a wealth of experience leading diverse teams, to his new role as President.

He is a graduate of Duhaney Park Primary School, Calabar High School and the University of Technology, and the holder of a Master of Business Administration degree from Nova South East University. Eric is married and has 3 daughters.

 

Meghon Miller-Brown – Vice President, Finance & Investments

Meghon joined Guardian Life in January 2000 in the position of Vice President in charge of Finance & Investments. Before joining Guardian Life, she was an Assistant Vice President of Finance at Jamaica Mutual Life Assurance Society, and spent 10 years with the auditing firm of PriceWaterhouse as an Auditor and Tax Consultant.

Mrs. Miller-Brown is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ) and holder of a B.Sc. Degree in Management Studies from the University of the West Indies. She is a licensed Dealer’s Representative for Guardian Life Limited under the Securities Act.

 

Audrey Basanta – Henry – Vice President, Corporate Resources

Audrey is Guardian Life’s Vice President, Human Resource Management with over 39 years working experience in the financial sector. A banking and human resource specialist, Mrs. Basanta-Henry’s expertise covers a range of areas including project management, strategic planning and policy formulation.

Prior to joining Guardian Life, she worked with the NCB Group in a number of senior management positions. Among other academic qualifications, Mrs. Basanta-Henry holds an Executive Master of Business Administration Degree from Barry University and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London. She is also certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources by the Society of Human Resource Management, U.S.A.

 

Alicia Foster – Vice President, Employee Benefits, Sales & Marketing

Alicia has served as Vice President, Employee Benefits since August 1, 2007. She brings to Guardian Life a wealth of knowledge spanning over 25 years in the areas of Employee Benefits, Client Relations, Health Insurance, Provider Relations, Customer Service, Sales and Marketing.

Prior to joining Guardian Life, Mrs. Foster garnered years of experience from Pan Caribbean Financial Services as Assistant Vice President, Client Services, First Life Insurance Company, where she served as Director of Marketing, Customer Service and Provider Relations and Caribbean Assurance Brokers as Executive Director of Employee Benefits and International Health.

A past student of Mona School of Business, University of the West Indies, where she earned a Masters in Business Administration, Mrs. Foster has been awarded the designations of Health Insurance Associate (HIA) and Managed Healthcare Professional (MHP) by the Health Insurance Association of America.

 

Glendon Gordon – Vice President, Individual Life

Glendon Gordon was appointed to the position of Vice President, Individual Life, effective January 1, 2010. Glendon joined Guardian Life in 2004 as a Branch Manager and prior to this, was General Manager for Prime Insurance Agency. He also worked in various positions within the banking sector bringing his cumulative experience within the financial services sector to over 20 years.

He has a strong background in marketing and sale of financial services and products, and very experienced in leading sales teams. Glendon is a past President of the Jamaica Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (JAIFA) and has served in other leadership positions. Glendon is married and has a daughter.

 

Claudette Ashman – Vice President, Legal, Compliance & Risk

Claudette is Corporate Secretary and Legal Officer of Guardian Life Limited. She was admitted to practice at the Jamaican Bar in 1986 and has over 16 years experience in the financial services sector. Mrs. Ashman holds a Master of Business Administration from Nova South Eastern University and is a member of the Jamaican Bar Association.

 

 

Carol Hibbert - Vice President, Employee Benefits Administration

Mrs. Hibbert has more than 20 years experience in the insurance industry, primarily in the management of Employee Benefits programmes.  Additionally, she has 5 years experience in Corporate Human Resources Management with direct responsibility for the management of employee wellness initiatives. She joined Guardian Life in 2006 as Assistant Vice President, Employee Benefits Administration.


Mrs. Hibbert holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Manchester Business School and the industry designations of Health Insurance Associate (HIA) and Fellow Life Management Institute (FLMI).

 

Catherine Allen – Vice President, Actuary

Catherine Allen is Assistant Vice President and Actuary for Guardian Life Limited. Prior to joining Guardian Life, Mrs. Allen worked with the Financial Services Commission for 3 years as Chief Actuary and as Actuarial Assistant with a major insurance company in Jamaica for 11 years.

Mrs. Allen graduated from Florida International University in 1986 with a B.Sc. (honours), in mathematics. She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

 

Earl Manning – Chief Information Officer

Earl returns to Guardian Life as the Chief Information Officer, after a long and distinguished sojourn at Telecommunications Giant Digicel, where he was one of the founding Directors. At Digicel he was responsible for developing and implementing the IT Strategy required to support the rapid growth of the company in Jamaica and across the Caribbean. He held the positions of Information Technology Director, Group Information Technology Director and Operations Director.

Earl holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the University of the West Indies and a Masters Degree in Database Management Systems from University of East Anglia, Norwich, England. Earl has spent many years working in the financial sector prior to joining Digicel and is an FLMI designate.

 

Emma Thomas – Assistant Vice President , Employee Benefits Division & Sales

Emma has responsibility for the implementation of strategies to enhance the marketing, research and product development arms of the Company. Mrs. Thomas has over 25 years experience in Life Insurance Sales. She operated as a Sales Representative and a Branch Manager (first female to be appointed) at Mutual Life, prior to her appointment at Guardian Life. A past President of the Life Underwriters’ Association of Jamaica (now JAIFA), who was awarded ‘Member of the Year’.

A Fellow of Life Management Institute (FLMI), Chartered Life Underwriter and Financial Consultant (CLU & CH.FC), Mrs. Thomas also holds a B.Sc and an Executive Masters in Business Administration from the University of the West Indies, Mona. She is the recipient of Mona School of Business ‘Most Outstanding Leadership Award’.

 

Jacqueline McLeod – Assistant Vice President, Individual Life Operations

Jacqueline is the Assistant Vice President – Individual Life Operations in charge of Customer Service, Premium Accounts and Branch Service Centre Operations. 

Before joining Guardian Life, she was the Oracle Financial System Administrator at Jamaica Mutual Life Assurance Society where she spent 5 years. Her experience covers a range of areas including underwriting, systems implementation, project management and individual life operations.

Ms. McLeod is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ) and holder of a M. Sc. degree in Accounting from the University of the West Indies. She is also an Oracle Certified Financials Applications Consultant.
  
 

Ruby AndersonAssistant Vice President -Training & Development

Ruby  joined Guardian Life Limited in August, 1999. She entered the industry in 1988 as a sales representative at Crown Eagle Life Insurance Company Limited, and later moved to the position of Sales Training Manager. She has over 18 years’ experience in the life insurance industry.

Prior to coming into the life insurance industry she was a teacher. She is a member of the pioneer batch of graduates of Church Teachers’ College in Mandeville and has taught at the secondary and tertiary levels of the education system. She has held senior and management positions in the school system.

Mrs Anderson holds a B.A. in Economics and History from the University of Western Ontario and a Diploma in Education from the University of the West Indies. She also holds a Masters in Human Resource Management. She is a Chartered Life Underwriter and a Chartered Financial Consultant.

 

Paul Smith – Assistant Vice President, Information Technology

Paul is the Assistant Vice President for Information Technology at Guardian Life Limited, and has overall responsibility for guiding the development, implementation, and management of infrastructure technology solutions which can be utilized to deliver value to the business operations.

Mr. Smith has over 16 years experience in the IT industry and has gained a wealth of experience in the integration and management of multi-platform environments, over both local and wide area networks. He holds a B.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a M.Sc. in Computer Based Management in Information Systems
 
In 1992 he joined the Information Services Department of the Jamaica Mutual Life Assurance Society as a Systems Engineer, and progressed steadily to become the Network Manager in 1997. In 1999, he joined Guardian Life Limited as head of their Network Department and most recently held the position of IT Infrastructure Manager. Over this period, he has been responsible for a number of projects related Network, Database Management and Data Centre Operations, and collaborated with other members of an inter-regional IT team responsible for the connectivity of various business units within the Caribbean for the Guardian Holdings Group.
 
Outside of work, Paul has been involved with church related activities involving the Youth, Administration and Leadership Development. He and wife Ritwa have been married for over 11 years and have been blessed with two children.
